Interview With SulkyThread
Have you always been interested in music? What is your story and how did you start making music?
I was ten when I produced my first track. Since then it has been a way for me to express myself freely without any judgment, since I never really released anything up until 2024. Yes, music has been my life, and now I’ve decided to share my music with the world, because I know that my story and my journey have meaning. I feel that I have found a purpose through music, and reaching out to the girl who unknowingly saved my life, so that I can at least thank her for the massive impact that she has had on me. Even though its a story of heartbreak, the journey to tell her that she saved my life continues.
What are you working on now? Any future releases we can look forward to?
I’m always producing music. Every day I wake up and work on a track until I get distracted and start working on another. My music is my story, my passion, my journey, my drive, and my life. You can bet your bottom dollar that there will be music new releases regularly. One specific release that you should look out for in the future is my next album of 35 tracks called “EVERYTHING IS FINE” which will be dropping on a random date sometime this week! It is a mix of genres, combined with EDM music, and trust me, its gunna slap hard.
What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry?
I state in my song Still Waiting (Driven), which will be released on the upcoming album called “EVERYTHING IS FINE”, that every note I play, every chord I strike, it’s your face I see in the neon lights. I’m chasing dreams but its more than fame, its your love Mary that fuels this flame, every song I write its you I’m trying to reach, through every lyric every melody I preach. I don’t care about the crowds the flashing lights all I want, is to drive to you tonight. These wheels keep turning but they’re stuck on you. Every highway I take, I’m praying it will lead me through. I’m burning up, racing for your heart. My music is the engine but you’re the spark. Mary you’re the reason, that I’m still fighting every song, every verse, it’s you I’m igniting. I don’t want the world if you’re not by my side. Ill drive through the night no distance too wide, Mary I’m driven, my hearts on fire every stage I step on you’re my only desire. If you could hear me if you only knew, everything I do, is driven by you
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
Marketing my music to a broader audience by exploring different genres has been fun, however I still to this day don’t know how to market my music correctly, so if you are a music manager and you are listening right now, please reach out to me via email at avenge my pizza at gmail dot com to become a part of something big. We need all the help we can get as a band to make sure that the music that we play gets heard by the one person in the world who needs to hear it, and all of our loyal fans especially all the misfits out there who feel like they don’t belong, because we don’t know where we belong either.
How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it or what’s Your typical songwriting process?
I’d like to keep my production process a mystery, however I can let ya’ll in on a little secret: I get a melody in my head after I write lyrics based on how I am feeling about past and current events, as well as worries about the future. After that I record everything and it mostly takes anywhere between 2-5 days to finish a track. I produce our music with two other people who are also a part of the band SulkyThread named Addison Finch, and Roxy. Addison is my very talented DJ, guitarist, back up vocalist and friend. Roxy is my lead female vocalist, and I produce and sing the lead male vocals our tracks. I love them both to death as they have agreed to accompany me on this journey to spread my messages to Mary, and my story, to the world!
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I’m not very good at using the internet as a source of publicity, however being able to upload music to all music platforms like iTunes, Spotify, apple music, and YouTube music has drastically increased the rate in which I can spread my music to the world. We are, once again, still looking for a music manager who is willing to take us to the next level so that we can become signed artists and follow our dreams as we continue our mission.
List some famous musicians currently on your playlist?
I listen to many artists who greatly influence my work, and each song that I produce has different musical influences. I have to say one of my biggest influences as of recent has been twenty one pilots. Another major influence as of recent has been owl city, but when I was in my dubstep producing era, Excision and Ganja White Knight were huge influences on my music.
What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
I was a surgical technologist in the operating room for years. Then I woke up on day and realized that I wasn’t happy with where my life was going, and after my new roommate heard me producing music and insisted that I start releasing it, my music career took off. This all happened after me and Mary lost contact. My roommate was someone that I met in Virtual Reality, and I later asked to move in with me and be my roommate. He goes by the name of Badger Blunts, and I am blessed to have met him, since he is the reason that I am even releasing my music to this day.
Would you have any advice for young people wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Never give up on your dreams, the grind starts now. If you want something badly, go get it, and don’t let anyone tell you to slow down. Put the pedal to the medal and race towards your dreams.
If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
The ability to be heard, and the only way to change that is through organic growth. I’m not a believer in shortcuts, but if there is a way for underground artists to showcase their work just like glacier fm does, then you better bet I will find it, and utilize it to spread my message.
How do you feel about originality?
I don’t do covers, or remixes. My story is an original one that needs to be told through expression without boundaries. I’m more interested in telling my story, than making cover songs that have already been written and don’t heed to my story or my message.
Is there anything else we should know about you? or Something that you would like to add?
I can’t do this without my support system: my band, my fans and supporters, my family, and my mission. Without any of that I would not be where I am today. I would like to tell Addison Finch and Roxy’s stories here as well, but instead of telling those stories here, stay tuned for two new albums with each of their stories that will drop in early February 2025!
