Interview With Matti Vuorinen
Have you always been interested in music? What is your story and how did you start making music?
I have been interested in music since I was about three years old. I shared room with my older sister who listened to music a lot. Mostly Elvis. I got my first guitar when I was 10 years old, wrote and played my first song at 13 and played it on my first live-performance in front of five thousand people when I was 14 years old. Then I played in a glamrock-band Tears for many years. We were a very popular live-band, made a lot of records, TV-shows and so on. Swedish television even made a special documentary about us for being legends in Swedish music and for breaking down many walls in pop and rock music. Today I make a lot of live-concerts. Mostly on my own but sometimes with friends. Today I write my own songs and I make my recordings with my friend Anders Nordh. A good technician and a very good musician. He even played with Abba.
What are you working on now? Any future releases we can look forward to?
My latest record was “Broken love”. It has been number one for eight weeks now on a Swedish radio chart.
My new song “Rainbows” will be released on September 28 on many digital platforms.
Today I am working on a new song, working-name “Pretty baby”. I hope it will be released before Christmas.
What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry?
My goal is to continue making, writing and playing, music and I wish people will like to listen to it. Music and performing has always been, and always will be a great happiness in my life. I can say Music is my life.
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
To get my own new recordings out to the audience all around the world now that I am doing it on my own and not in a band or with a record company behind me anymore. I have chosen to be independent and as that it is hard to get my music out wide.
How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it or what’s Your typical songwriting process?
Usually both music and a part of the lyrics come into my head at the same time in a melody or a phrase. I can wake up in the middle of the night and it is there. I write it down, sometimes a whole song, and then I go to sleep again. I can be out walking and suddenly there it is in my head. I record it on my mobile phone and do the rest when I have the time. I often say that songs come to me. I don’t make them. That I am very grateful for.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
It has made music free and easy to get for more people. And it has made music more international.
I have had a very big record company behind me but today I want to be free and do thing as I want to. But it makes it harder to get the music out because there is so much music in the air now.
List some famous musicians currently on your playlist?
Elvis, Paul Simon, The Beatles and Rolling Stones and many, many others. Even new musicians and new songs.
What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
I am a teacher and an “expert” in children in need.
Would you have any advice for young people wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Don’t take it so seriously. Have fun and do the music you like. Let the music come from your heart.
If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
It would be good if it was easier to make your own recordings. Today it takes a lot of technical and expensive things and know-how.
How do you feel about originality?
As long as you do what you like and do it from your heart, I think it is ok. Almost whatever you do. But not direct copying (stealing).

Music is life. It connects people and makes people happy. It makes me happy!
