Brief info

Elín is a singer-songwriter and musician originally from Reykjavík. She was born 29.09.1969 and got really passionate about music as she grew up in Reykjavík. At just 9, she already had a mastery of music piano lessons and got into voice lessons from the Age of 15.
Elín studied Music in the London College of Music at Thames Valley University and later took private lessons in Germany with tenór Philip Doghan. She learnt the style of operatic bel canto in Ítaly with Ferrero and studied with Lia Montoya Palmen who is famous for her performances with Leonard Bernstein. After studies, she stayed in Iceland for few more years. During that time, she staged concerts and operas with her partners and then moved back to Regensburg, Germany with her then husband, opera singer, Johann Saevarsson. In Regensburg, Elín built a reputation in the area for her light pop and gospel performances both as a soloist and choir director with the choirs “Spirit of Joy” and “Femmes Fatales”. She was well known for performing children's music in the Icelandic music scene. The Icelandic institution of education published her musical works “the adventure of the turtle Searose” or in the original language “Ævintýri Sædísar skjaldböku” for all schools in Iceland. The song is ábout a turtle that is stuck in plastic. It was her work as a teacher, composing children's music that got the team at SoundCloud to send her an invitation to join their repost network. It's a distribution network for musicians around the globe and she accepted their offer, releasing 4 Albums in addition to multiple singles with the aim of reaching a global audience. Ellin has directed many choirs and perfomed with them on stage as soloist and pianist. Her son Sævar (turned 30 in March) is á well known composer and musician in Iceland (look up his music on Spotify and other platforms) and her daughter Gunnhildur has 2 adorable babies, a master in business and she is also a singer.

Interview With Elín Halldórsdóttir

Have you always been interested in music? What is your story and how did you start making music?

Í have always loved Music and remember myself rushing Home from school when Í was 10 putting the living room chairs all together to make á stage and standing there with my best friend and singing with Abba my long time favorite band. My first single came out when Í was 15 yrs but my Music has really got spread in last 4-5 yrs.

What are you working on now? Any future releases we can look forward to?

I am working on 2 albums one for Icelandic children and one aimed at the international audience in English.

What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry?

My ultimate goal and dream would be to go on grand concert tour for few years.

What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?

My biggest challenge has been envious people trying to ruin my name and my work (Iceland)

How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it or what’s Your typical songwriting process?

Í usually first write the lyrics and then Í sit at the piano and the chords and melody flow like through me I feel they come from God and I am the channel.

Sometimes Í make the beats first and then the words and melody come later example are the songs Love key, Under your skin and Stay healthy

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

Both good and bad…… good in the sense that everybody can get access to making Music and distributing it … bad in á sense that fine musicianship like masters of creation or fine musical instrument players don’t get rewarded enough for their hard work

List some famous musicians currently on your playlist?

Carole King, Aretha Franklin, Duffy, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and fire, Donna Summer, Elton John, Billy Jóel, Abba, Toto, Whitney Houston, Kool & the Gang, Madonna, Spice Girls, a-ha, Spandau Ballet, Cilture Club, Wham, Bananarama, Queen, David Bowie, Chicago, Boney M, the Bangles, Blondie, Avicii, Alicia Keyes, Beyonce, Sting, Simply Red, Lou Reed, Santana … Pavarotti, Andre Rieu, Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Yiruma, Sævar Jonannsson,

What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?

I’ve always made music but I’m a teacher

Would you have any advice for young people wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Never give up do not listen to negative voices, leave dreadful situations or workplaces, believe in yourself and your talent. Everyone is special.

If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?

Í would pay creators and musicians more

How do you feel about originality?

Well … Love it …. My daughter gave me a pullover with the words “ Dare to be different” and said mom this suits you ,.. Í am not afraid to have different opinion and go against the mainstream … Í hate mainstream media ( have not been able to hear news for example for many years as Í always feel they are turning the reality upside down) I chose not to get vaccinated and fought against the vaccines inside my circles both as á friend, relative and teacher ….. That got me Into many troubles and Í had to change workplaces quite often but the important ppl stood by my Side and Í am happy …. Í fight hard for children’s rights and protection wherever and when ever Í can

Is there anything else we should know about you? or Something that you would like to add?

Don’t know …. My mom calls me á butterfly … Í am somewhat hippie natured child of God trying to live my life on this difficult planet earth and Í have found out that we are all connected here and Love is most important … Í try to convey that through my songs. People tell me I look younger than my years …. Í think that is because I Love Music and practice spiritual meditations. Í am known in Iceland also for my healing work and as á psychic medium and oracle card reader. Í hope to become a writer when I grow up 😉 and occasionally articles I write are published in Icelandic media.
