Interview With Bozhidar Popov
Have you always been interested in music? What is your story and how did you start making music?
My interest in music started 4 years go. Before that I had no idea that this would turn into my dream! One day, I just decided to upload some lyrics that I wrote back then, on Songbay – this is a music platform for musicians and lyricists. I was lucky, because soon after I’ve done that, the co-founder of our band contacted me with the proposal to collaborate and to compose a song. It was very hard at that time, because I didn’t know how to do it. However, with the help of Gary Cubberley, who is the owner of “Songbay” and also a drummer, we managed to produce our first song – “Chains”. It is about drug addiction. From there, here we are almost 4 years later, we have released 8 songs and a couple of instrumentals and now I’m fully capable of writing and producing our music on my own.
What are you working on now? Any future releases we can look forward to?
We are working on a new song, called “My Division”. It is a fast metal song that consists of many complex guitar riffs and it has an explosive energy! Stay tuned!
What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry?
To spread our music worldwide and to reach as many listeners as possible. Our songs have lyrics that send specific message to the audience, which reveals the obstacles in life that we all have to overcome.
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
Composing/writing songs that are different from each other. This is quite difficult to do because many bands stick to a certain path of the same compositions. I try to write songs that are different from each other musically and that are a big challenge.
How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it or what’s Your typical songwriting process?
My collaborator – Marie-Louise Anastas sends me lyrics and then I pick the one that grabs me most. After that I compose the melody and then everything else follows up.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I try to think of it as a very positive impact. Thanks to the Internet I have the opportunity to promote our music and to write songs. All social platforms play a vital role by spreading music worldwide, which was not possible 20/30 years ago.
List some famous musicians currently on your playlist?\
Matteo Mancuso, Bernth, Metallica, AC/DC, Tim Henson, Iron Maiden, Manowar and many more!
What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
I studied journalism at the university. I am now thankful, because I am able to implement some of the material that I covered back then into music. For example, things like video editing, talking in front of the camera for my YouTube channels, etc…
Would you have any advice for young people wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Follow your dreams, never give up, follow your inner instincts and be brave!
If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
Many have forgotten what real music is and what actually music is about in general. For example, many are focused on making a modern production, rather than on composing a meaningful song that will last forever. This should be changed!
How do you feel about originality?
I feel quite good about it! We should aim for it and not just copy and paste. Expressing yourself, your emotions and struggles through music is the most original thing!
Is there anything else we should know about you? or Something that you would like to add?
I hope that one day I will turn my project “Rage Unfold” from a virtual to a real band. So, that being said – band members needed! We need a drummer and a bassist, if interested you can contact us via our website: rageunfold.com!
