Brief info
Marc Soucy is a musician in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. He has been connected to music since he was a toddler, and music has never released its grip on him. After many years performing, composing, producing, doing studio work, and forever tweaking things, he is now releasing new music to the world. Marc told us “I’ve been working up to this moment for years. Now is the time!”.
Marc played in his first rock and r & b band at the age of 13. Even at that young age, he had already taken 9 years of piano lessons. He has played keyboards in a couple dozen bands throughout his life, and his musical activities have been ceaseless. He was an independent producer from 1997 to 2011, working for some of those years at Boston’s famous Renaissance Recording Company when their website mentioned him as “Boston’s premier midi producer” in 2002. His work with music technology began shortly after it was being developed: more powerful personal computers, MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), multi-timbral synthesizers, and digital audio recording comprised the flood of new technology that Marc surfed as it rushed by. It is all of this early experience that gives him the ease with which he navigates all the tools in his arsenal. This familiarity with so many concepts allows him to focus on the music itself a lot more. Sure today’s music technology can be daunting at times, but it allows him to do whatever is in his mind.
Marc’s music is a hybrid electronic style, in the sense that everything is performed, programmed, and produced digitally. However, it doesn’t always sound “electronic” depending on the intended style. Often folk instrumentation and sounds normally associated with classical music or film soundtracks make an appearance. He borrows influences from the many musical styles he has worked on over his life: classical, rock, progressive rock, jazz fusion, world music, funk, and folk styles from all over the world, and merges them together into new musical collages. Hence the words “hybrid” and “eclectic” are frequently used to describe his work.
Marc always plays the parts on his keyboards before shaping the piece into the track they will become. He does all his own production, including recording, final mix, and mastering every track he creates.
